‘Crossing Seas’
“I stitch I can’t help it, it’s what I do, it’s become a part of me”
Rowena’s Great Grandmother Harriet Dalison stitched exquisite ecclesiastic embroideries, by following in her footsteps the concept of the simple cross stitch came about. Together with these large contemporary pieces, Rowena has used the ancient craft of wet felting, allowing merino fleece, threads and fibres to merge together. After enhancing with stitch a rippled effect is formed giving the impression of the sea and movement of water. The title ‘Crossing Seas’ refers to traffic from one shore line to another, whilst exploring the role of emigration and the need to travel and explore the world.
