Julie Clemett

Julie began embroidery at an early age taught by her mother and grandmother and inspired by household items made by her grand- and great-grandmothers.  She has a wide range of embroidery interests, mostly counted thread embroidery styles, and loves to learn more about traditional embroidery and then use the techniques in modern ways. Julie

Christine Richards (McGuigan)

Chris is an experienced embroidery and textiles tutor to students of a range of ages and experiences. Through years of teaching and studying textile crafts she has developed a deep understanding of how to empower students to explore their own potential and to
discover the joy of creating in their own style.

In her classes students are encouraged to use their own stories or experiences to create memorable and personal work by incorporating memorabilia. Chris’s engaging teaching style makes her classes fun and rewarding.

Chris has taught WAW events, including fabric paper making, hand and machine embroidery.

Andrea Old

Andrea was introduced to embroidery as a teenager by her mother and has belonged to Auckland Guild for thirty years. Her preference has

Fiona Crowther-Aker

Fiona is a Member of the Aoraki Embroiderers Guild .  She has found her place in needlework creating new designs and playing with colour. Especially when she finds a thread she can’t resist or an idea that gets stuck in her head. When teaching classes she is sharingHow I Stitched It” .

When designing for classes she tries to keep in mind several key things: technique, design, thread, the end product, who will stitch it, time restraints,
cohesive instructions and will it be too overwhelming for some students . For her students, she wants them to be relaxed, have fun and enjoy the process of needlework and what we can create.

Sue Swann

Sue has always enjoyed working with her hands and has dabbled in a variety of different crafts over the years
finally finding her niche in embroidery. For the last 30 years she has been exploring the different techniques and styles, initially by taking classes in different techniques until she reached the point where she wanted to design her own pieces.  At this point she began her
journey through City and Guilds Design and Craft.  She enjoys the challenge of designing a piece and then translating the design into a piece of art.  In recent years, she has also enjoyed working with fellow embroiderers and watching them work her designs.
